Student Songwriters Shine in National Peace Song Competition

Throughout this year, a dedicated group of Year 8–13 students has been gathering each week to write songs and grow in their songwriting craft. What began as a creative outlet soon grew into a bold challenge: during Term Two, the group set out to collaboratively write and submit an original piece for the Play It Strange Peace Song competition, a national songwriting event for high school students across New Zealand.

Their hard work paid off. The students were selected as finalists and awarded a full day in a professional recording studio to bring their song to life.

The finished piece, “Come and Rest,” is a heartfelt invitation for listeners to draw near to Jesus and experience the true peace that only He can give.

The song is set to be released on Spotify at the beginning of December — a moment these young songwriters are eagerly anticipating.
