Philosophy

Students will grow in wisdom, knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 24:3-4), equipping them to fulfil their God-given calling.

Our Curriculum House represents the framework through which our teaching programmes are built upon.  The structure of the house is made up of the ‘foundations’, ‘pillars’, ‘walls’ and ‘roof’.  Each part of the house represents the key components of our curriculum philosophy.   Our framework ensures that each curriculum area is undergirded with biblical truth and supports the vision and values of the school. The key scripture for this curriculum framework is: “Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches” – Proverbs 24:3–4

The Foundation: Strengthening Wisdom – all that is taught is based upon the spoken and written Word of God.
The Pillars: Strengthening Understanding – these are applied throughout the various curriculum areas to ensure these aspects of our philosophy are embedded in what is taught.
The Walls: Strengthening Knowledge – teaching a core range of subjects and developing essential skills.
The Roof: Strengthening Application – in all their learning, students are lead to a place of application

Our Unique Curriculum Pillars

Key aspects of our curriculum are seen in the framework of pillars, which undergird our teaching and ensure that our unique Christian perspective is applied throughout all subject areas.
“Doctrine received, believed and practiced determines our beliefs, which affects our character, which determines our destiny.” – Kevin J. Conner

Students are inspired by God’s original design and purpose for His Creation.  They consider how sin has eroded God’s original plan and initiate ways to restore it.  We teach our students to recognize the conflict between the secular worldview and the Christian worldview.  We empower students to be able to confidently apply God’s Word, which is the foundation of a Christian worldview, in the midst of the pressure of secular society.

Students learn who the Holy Spirit is, and become Spirit-led Christians.  They are taught to be confident in the Spirit, aligning their soul and mind with the Spirit of God within them.  Personal revelation and application of what they learn will be essential to see their faith put into action.

Students will acknowledge what has gone before them; the sacrifices that have been made and how beliefs and events have affected the world today.  We are raising up students who understand their place in history, the part which they are called to play and the impact their decisions and actions will have on future generations.

In discovering God’s character, students grow in their love and intimacy towards God and experience Him as a real and living presence in their lives.  Students are challenged to build Godly character as they mature into Christ-likeness.

Servants discover and apply keys to become self- governing Christians, taking responsibility for their thoughts, words and actions. They will understand the power of influence, learning to lead others in both formal and informal situations; developing confidence and boldness to stand up for they believe.

The school is as much a part of the church as any of the Ministry areas within.   The same absolutes and values are demonstrated on a daily basis.   The work of the church is complemented by the school as it prepares young people to be effective disciples, growing in wisdom, stature and favour with God and man.

Students learn who they are in Christ, having a strong identity, purpose and influence; exhibiting Godly character and conduct.  This, in turn, equips them to step out with confidence into unfamiliar settings, learning to interact with a variety of people from different spheres.

Essential skills

Students are trained in the following skills in order to apply knowledge:

  • Communication – Confidently communicating ideas, opinions and feelings using a range of forms.
  • Numeracy – Calculating, estimating and analysing numerical information.
  • Social and Co-operative – Developing relationships and intra-personal skills.
  • Information and Technology – Locating, processing, evaluating and interpreting information from a variety of sources and technologies.
  • Self-Governing – Learning to govern themselves through managing and accepting responsibility.
  • Physical – Valuing physical stewardship, personal fitness, health and well-being.
  • Work and Study – Working effectively and efficiently, both independently and with others; developing a sound work ethic.
  • Leadership – Developing into servant leaders with the necessary skills to motivate, inspire and direct others.
  • Critical Thinking Skills – Exercising innovation and creativity; demonstrating discernment, analysis and insight.

Roof of Application

In all their learning, students are led to a place of application. James 1:22 encourages us to, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”  Students are taught the importance of applying their learning to their lives. The three areas of application are:

  • What do I know? (Beliefs)
  • What kind of person am I going to be? (Character)
  • What do I need to do? (Behaviour)

These three areas stand together. “Doctrine received, believed and practiced determines our beliefs [what we know], which affects our character [who we will be] which determines our destiny [what we do].” (The Foundations of Christian Doctrine by Kevin J Conner).

Description of Special Character

Our school is an extension of City Impact Church and therefore shares the same heart, absolutes and values. Throughout the school, there is a sense of family, excellence, the Spirit of God, servant-hood and leadership. There are five main components to our special character.
Our school is:

  1. Discipleship focused
  2. Spirit-filled
  3. Exellence driven
  4. Creative and Innovative
  5. Leadership orientated

The Word of God is foundational
We believe that all truth comes from God. He is our absolute source of truth.  This is seen in our value for the Word of God as the foundation of all that we teach.

Knowledge is not taught separately from God
We believe that this world, and all that is in it, is God’s creation and a reflection of who He is.  Therefore, all that we teach should give glory to the one who created it.  (Colossians 1:16-17, Romans 1:20, Acts 17:24-28.) Knowledge is valued and systematically taught – precept upon precept, line upon line – Isaiah 28:10.

Colossians 1:16-17 All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

Acts 17:24-28 God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.  And He has made from one blood every nation of men … so that they should seek the Lord… though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being…

Isaiah 28:10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.

We value truth and believe that the Word of God is the basis for integrating all of life.
